In 1883, Mrs. Louisa Coxon and eighteen others wrote a letter to the Acting Colonial Secretary, the Honorable F. Stewart, requesting a “small piece of ground for the purpose of health and recreation”. The proposal was accepted and marked the birth of the Ladies' Recreation Club.

1938 - Club was incorporated under the Companies Ordinance of 1933.

1952 - First debenture scheme launched.

1955 - Lady Grantham performed the opening ceremony of the Main Clubhouse.

1962 - Junior Clubhouse demolished and construction of the Family Clubhouse begins.

1963 - Family Clubhouse opens.

1966 - First Baker Cup Tennis tournament.

1967 - First LRC Swimming team is formed.

1976 - New swimming pool opens.

1977 - Sports Clubhouse opens.

1978 - Main Clubhouse reopens.

1983 - LRC celebrates 100 years.

1997 - The Handover Ball.

2006 - May Road building opens.

2007 - First Pink Ribbon Tennis Tournament in aid of the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation.

2008 - 125th anniversary.

2009 - New Deck built overlooking the centre tennis courts.

2012 - Main Clubhouse renovation project begins.

2013 - LRC celebrates 130 years.
